2011 Camp Counselor Lola Fisher

Meet Lola Fisher, a 2011 Camp Counselor from Houston, Texas. Lola is a Junior majoring in Laboratory Technology.

When you were a freshman, what was your greatest mistake, and how did you handle it?

Not asking for help early enough. I was really struggling in my chemistry class, and I just could not grasp the concepts. Later on in the semester I finally got a tutor and I really saw an improvement. I ended up with a decent grade in the class, but if I had gotten help earlier my grade could have been higher.

What was the one thing you didn’t leave home without when you started your freshman year?

My extensive collection of ballet flats. I probably should have been more worried about rain boots, but I was oblivious to how Auburn weather really is. Sunny with a chance of rain at anytime.

Why do you feel it is important for incoming freshmen to attend Camp War Eagle?

Camp War Eagle lets you experience what its really like to be an Auburn Tiger before coming on campus. You get a  preview of things you might want to participate in, social and academic issues you might face, and a head start on making friends. Its more than orientation; it offers a little something for everyone.

What’s one thing you did that made you not miss home so much?

Being from Texas, I really couldn’t go home whenever I felt like it. I joined organizations so I wouldn’t feel so homesick. Once I started to get more involved on campus, I made more friends. And I didn’t have as much time to sit around thinking about how much I missed home.
