War Eagle! We hope everyone has had a great start to the semester! With the beginning of a new school year comes the numerous opportunities to get involved on Auburn’s campus. In our office, applications are available to become an SOS Transfer Orientation Leader, Camp War Eagle Parent Counselor, and Camp War Eagle Camp Counselor.

Orientation Leaders (OLs) work with Successfully Orienting Students (SOS), which is Auburn’s transfer student specific orientation program. Orientation Leaders help educate Auburn’s transfer students on the resources and programs available. During the first eight weeks of the spring semester, Orientation Leaders attend a weekly three hour training session on Thursdays. SOS sessions are held during the spring and fall semesters, primarily on Fridays.

Parent Counselors (PCs) work with the parent program of Camp War Eagle. They help orient parents of the incoming freshman students by welcoming them to campus, providing information about campus resources and answering questions. During the spring semester, Parent Counselors attend a weekly three hour training session on Tuesdays. Camp War Eagle sessions take place during the summer. Parent Counselors can take summer classes as long as they do not conflict with the CWE schedule.

Camp Counselors (CCs) work with Camp War Eagle, which is Auburn’s unique freshman orientation program. Camp Counselors help orient the incoming freshmen with the adjustment to college life and welcome them to campus. During the spring semester, Camp Counselors attend a weekly three hour training session on Tuesdays. Camp War Eagle sessions take place during the summer.

For more information or to get your application, visit our website www.auburn.edu/fye.

Hey guys! My name is Nicholas Romero, and I am junior from Prattville, Alabama. I am currently double majoring in Industrial Engineering and Economics. Ultimately, my plan is to earn a Ph.D. in Economics so that I can teach at the collegiate level. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoy school. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, running, and giving back to Auburn through my other major commitment, the Student Alumni Association.

My favorite part of working with transfer students is the counselors’ ability to have such an immediate impact on the students’ lives. They come to us for such a short time, and in that window, we can potentially change their whole Auburn experience. The opportunity that comes with that is such a blessing, but at the same time, it keeps all of us accountable to make sure to do the best jobs we are capable of. That all being said, as a new orientation leader coordinator, I am most looking forward to our new group’s continual challenge of impacting transfer students in a positive way. I hope that we can all continue to push the bar further for new transfers’ enjoyment in their first “real” Auburn experience as students.

Hi!! My name is Katie Bennett. I’m a junior here at Auburn and am from Lecanto, FL. I am majoring in math with a minor in business. I’m not entirely sure what my career path will be, however, if I could do anything, I would probably be a mathematician. I love the beach, I love to read, and I might have a slight coffee addiction. This summer, I have the amazing opportunity to spend two months as an intern at a church in Chiba, Japan, teaching English and helping with disaster relief after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

I am so excited to be one of the upcoming SOS Orientation Leader Coordinators! I got involved with SOS because I wanted to welcome new students into Auburn’s family and expose them to the many reasons to love this place. Not only am I giving back to my school, but I have also made some great new friends and learned so much about Auburn in the process. I love meeting new people, and I’m so honored to be able to help make someone’s first experience at Auburn a positive one. This institution offers so many new and exciting opportunities, and I want to be sure that each and every transfer student is made aware of all the resources available to them.

War Eagle! My name is Spencer Boozer and I am honored to serve as an Orientation Leader Coordinator for the upcoming year. Serving as an SOS orientation leader this past year has been such a blessing. Working through the First Year Experience Office has given me a “behind the scenes” look at Auburn’s orientation programs and has unveiled a unique side of Auburn. I thoroughly enjoyed SOS this past year- I was able to meet numerous faculty and staff members, learn more about our beautiful campus, and take part in awesome experiences, all while getting to know the other great orientation leaders. It is so rewarding being able to show and tell transfer students and parents about the place I love so very much. I take great pride being an Auburn student because I truly believe in Auburn, and love it!

My name is Kayla Preston. I am from Oxford, Alabama. I am a senior studying Hotel and Restaurant Management with a minor in business. I hope to one day be working at a hotel or with a business as a catering sales manager. I like to watch movies, play games, and especially run. I completed my first half marathon this year and hope to run my first full marathon within the year.

I came to Auburn to challenge myself. I hardly knew anyone coming here but knew when I visited that this was going to be my second home. Now I consider it my Home Sweet Home! I love Auburn and I love sharing that with people. Being an orientation leader gave me the opportunity to share my passion with other students who were just like me. I wanted to let students know about all the amazing things this campus and town have to offer them. School is the number one priority to be here but while you are here make sure to take advantage of the great opportunities this place puts before you.
