CWE Staff Meeting: 4/5/10

As the spring continues, the busier we get around CWE. HCCs presented event planning sheets and their adjustments for the summer. We discussed various things regarding the schedule, check in, and late night activities. Trainings for Parent Counselors and Camp Counselors are going well. Both HCCs and HPCs discussed tour training and wrap up training strategies. Both groups’ skit practices are well underway and making good progress towards the skit preview on April 22. Our counselors nominated and voted on our 2010 Faculty Honorees. We are so excited to have them on our team this summer and can’t wait to work with them. Finally, we wrapped things up with updates regarding spring projects and assignments.

SOS Staff Meeting: 4/7/10

Today’s meeting was short and painless. We discussed our upcoming SOS Session on April 23. Staff talked about various scheduling adjustments and post session social programming. The staff and the OLs have it pretty much down pat, but the OLCs decided to organize a refresher/social the Tuesday before the Session. It’s a good way to brush up on some information and relax before the big day on Friday. We have been talking about our May SOS Session, and decided to have a full day session instead of the half day; we definitely want the incoming students to get the full experience!

We started off this week’s meeting discussing CWE event planning sheets and their details. Staff continued discussion of the CWE schedule and presented new thoughts for improvement. Then the HPCs talked about their plans for the Parent Counselor training sessions and how they will be incorporating the “PC Values” (enthusiasm, unity, and commitment). Both the PCs and CCs are working on their skits for the summer. They all have been working hard to write, organize, and practice their skits. Both the HPCs and HCCs planned a joint social for the Camp Counselors and Parent Counselors this week..pizza party! With the summer right around the corner, staff discussed various spring assignments and updates. And, of course, Training Week’s schedule and assignments are now being discussed.

58 Days until Session One!

SOS Staff Meeting: 3/31/10

At this week’s meeting, the SOS Staff discussed our March 26th SOS Session. It went really well. We could definitely see our Orientation Leaders feel more comfortable with their responsibilities and duties of the day. The OLCs presented some great feedback from our OLs’ debriefing notes. Our next session will be April 23rd, so we discussed various ways to improve the efficiency of the session. We also switched up the session “to do list” assignments. Since the OLs have completed their training, the OLCs planned an “OL kickball game and social” for next week. We want our team to continue to bond and have a little fun too!

CWE Staff Meeting: 3/22/10

With the summer fast approaching, the CWE staff meetings are full of things to cover. The Head Parent Counselors started it off by discussing the previous training session and social. Last week the PCs chose three “PC Values” that they all agreed that represented their group. They chose: Enthusiasm, Unity, and Commitment. Over the next three sessions, the focus will be on these values. The HPCs are doing a great job planning and facilitating training sessions. The HCCs then talked about how their trainings, socials, and skit practices have been going. They have basically got it down to a science; there are only six trainings left! We then turned to look over the CWE schedule. We discussed various concerns and ideas to improve it by summer. Late Night activity options for the summer were discussed and we will continue to brainstorm new ideas. The staff provided updates on their spring assignments. Our uniforms, website, evaluations, schedules, and many more were discussed. Lastly, we discussed our experiences of SROW. We learned lots of great information to bring back to our program, and had fun doing it!

SOS Staff Meeting: 3/24/10

At this week’s staff meeting, we focused more on our SOS session that’s coming up on Friday, March 26. We went over our “to do list” and any other schedule updates. The detailed responsibilities and Small Group location assignments were reviewed. We then discussed our Post session Social. After the SOS Session is over we have two options for the transfer students to attend; we have a movie and then the baseball game. The parents/guests are definitely not left out! We have an option planned for them as well. The Parent’s Association provides refreshments in their office area; this allows for current and upcoming parents/guests to network. We then switched directions and talked about our SROW experiences. The OLCs brought back great information and will be writing a “what to expect at SROW” for the next year’s OLCs. Finally, we discussed various blog entries. So be looking out for new and upcoming blogs from us!

The OLs’ eight week training came to an end on Tuesday, March 2. It seems like yesterday we were at Callouts and excited about the new year of Orientation Leaders. Where does the time go?!

At this particular training, the Orientation Leaders took their last Auburn Knowledge test and were prepared for their first SOS Session on Friday, March 5. The SOS Staff decided that the best way to prepare the OLs was to actually show them what a SOS session will be like. The OLCs and Staff took the OLs on a “SOS Walk Through”, where the OLs were presented with important information and locations of: check-in, War Eagle Welcome, Concurrent session rooms, and Tiger-I and Learning for Life presentations. They got the opportunity to ask questions and experience some of the key points of the session. A former OL, came and presented “AU Trivia” to the group. He showed the OLs how to run the concurrent session /game show and to have fun with it too.

We wrapped up the training with an icebreaker, the “blanket game”. The OLs were divided up into two teams. One OL from each team came up to the blanket; when the blanket dropped the first OL to say the other’s name won that round. We played until we had an ultimate winner. The OLs really enjoyed the game and learned some names!

The OLCs then took last minute questions for the upcoming session and presented the “OL Notes”. We ended with an enthusiastic Auburn Fight Song! The OLCs and OLs have worked extremely hard over the past eight weeks; they were definitely ready for their first session on Friday! War Eagle!

This week was SOS’s last training session. It went by so fast! During our staff meeting, we discussed how it went and the OLs’ readiness for their first session. Their Auburn Knowledge Final test scores were presented; they should be set to go. Most of the staff meeting concentrated on the Friday, March 5 Session. We discussed various schedule and post session social programming updates. For Friday’s session we will present a couple of options for the transfer students to mix and mingle with other students: a movie and a softball game. The parents will have the opportunity to network with other Auburn parents, and refreshments will be provided. We also discussed the SOS Briefings and packet stuffing times, and how they’re working out. We wrapped things up with an overview of the OLCs’ SROW presentation and suggestions for our website. War Eagle!
