This past week in SOS training, I presented on diversity and verbal awareness. Diversity awareness is so important while in our training sessions and also when the new OLs will be with their different transfer students. We talked about the different things that make an individual diverse and the different stereotypes on Auburn’s campus.

I incorporated an activity where I asked many different questions; some personal and some casual questions. The students stood if the statement pertained to them. We got great participation and I think it really open the OLs eyes about how diverse the group is. We also talked about how important verbal awareness is while presenting in front of their new transfer students. We read over some important points to watch out for while presenting during our different SOS sessions.

Overall, I think the OLs really enjoyed the discussion and activity. Their really growing as a group!

In CWE training this past week, I presented on Stanza 4 of the creed. “I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.”

I wanted the CCs to think how this portion of the creed related to camp training and the freshmen they will be with this summer. My activity divided the CCs into six groups. Each group shared their thoughts on how the creed relates.

The activity lead to some great group conversation on how we can accomplish these creed ideas the groups came up with. Finally, we discussed how sports and other non sports activities develop these qualities: sound mind, body, and a spirit that is not afraid. It’s awesome to see the group growing and getting more comfortable sharing as a group.
