General Questions
  1. Are all students required to attend CWE?
All incoming freshmen must attend Camp War Eagle before they can register for fall semester classes. If a student does not attend Camp War Eagle, he/she will not be able to register for classes until after ALL students have attended Camp War Eagle and SOS (transfer orientation). If you absolutely cannot attend any Camp War Eagle session, please contact our office.

  2. What if I am taking classes at Auburn in the summer?
If you plan to take summer classes at Auburn, you will need to contact your advisor in your college or school to register for summer classes. If you are attending one of the summer mini-semesters, you will be required to attend a Camp War Eagle session that falls outside of the mini-semester in which you are taking classes.

If you are attending the full summer or both mini-terms, you will be required to complete a UNIV course during fall semester. If you are part of a Learning Community (LC), the course associated with that LC will qualify. If you are not in an LC, then UNIV 1000 should be taken as a standalone course. Contact your advisor for summer school registration. You will complete your summer schedule online.

Fall class registration will occur at a session of CWE that you and your advisor agree upon. The only parts of CWE you will attend are academic advising and class registration. This gives you access to a wide selection of fall semester classes that would otherwise not be available to you. Following fall registration, you should contact Mr. Chris Wyckoff (wyckoct@auburn.edu), coordinator of First Year Seminars to add the UNIV class.

  3. What does it cost to attend CWE?
You previously submitted a $200 confirmation deposit to Auburn University. This allows you to attend CWE. Your orientation fees will be charged to your student account. The student fee is $150, and each parent or guest is $75. Please note that all Camp War Eagle fees, including those for registered parents and/or guests, are assessed at the time of Camp registration and are NOT REFUNDABLE.

  4. What if my plans change and I need to change my session?
Once a student is registered for CWE, it is preferred that the student remain in that session. If a session change is necessary, please call our office at 334-844-4501 between 7:45 a.m.-4:45 p.m., and we will assist you in finding another available session. There is a $15 fee for each session change. Please note that all Camp War Eagle fees, including those for registered parents and/or guests, are assessed at the time of Camp registration and are NOT REFUNDABLE.

Student Questions
  1. What should I bring?
You will need to bring comfortable, casual clothing for both days of CWE; comfortable shoes for walking; a pillow and sheets (or sleeping bag), as linens will not be provided; towels, washcloths, and toiletries such as shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.; an alarm clock; personal spending money; and a backpack. It is highly suggested that you do not bring any valuable items to CWE.

  2. When do I need to take the Math Placement Test?
The Math Placement Test should be completed online. For more information please visit, http://www.auburn.edu/mathtest. The test must be completed before you attend CWE. Failure to complete the test will limit your ability to register for a math class.

  3. Where will I stay?

Students will stay in assigned residence halls on campus. Students are not permitted to stay in locations off campus during CWE.

  4. Can I choose my roommate for CWE?
Roommates are assigned on a random basis; therefore we cannot accept requests for roommates.

  5. I am attending CWE with a friend from High School.  Can we be together?
Students are assigned at random to groups of 12-15 students. In order to create the best opportunity to meet new people and make new friends, you will most likely not be grouped with other students from your hometown or high school. There will be some free time during the program where you can spend time with people from other groups and meet up with your hometown friends if you choose.

  6. What happens if I don't attend the meetings and/or small group sessions?
Failure to attend all of the CWE meetings and small group sessions may result in you not being able to register for classes. You will be allowed to return to a later CWE session.

  7. I have friends that already attend Auburn.  Can they visit me or can I visit them while at CWE?
You may not leave campus during CWE except during the organized off-campus trips on Night 1 which are led by Camp Counselors. Leaving campus at anytime during your CWE session may result in you not being able to register for classes. Current Auburn students are highly discouraged from visiting CWE participants and may be asked to leave. If you wish to visit any friends or relatives at Auburn, please do so before or after your CWE session.

  8. Should I bring money to Camp?

    You will need money:
    • If you choose to participate in "Ice Cream After Dark," which is one of the late night options on the first night of CWE. The Camp Counselors will be walking with interested students to Toomer's Drugs for ice cream and/or lemonade.

    • If you want to join SAA (Student Alumni Association).
    • If you choose to eat meals and/or snacks not provided through CWE. You may also be interested in visiting one of the local bookstores for Auburn merchandise before or after Camp War Eagle.

    • If you arrive at CWE the night before the session starts and needs to eat dinner.

  9. I have not yet received my housing assignment from Housing and Residence Life.  When should I expect to hear something?

Housing assignment notification mailings will begin in mid-June and continue throughout the Summer. Should you have specific questions regarding your housing situation, please call the Housing and Residence Life Office at 334-844-4580 or visit their website.

  10. When will I register for classes?
Students will register for classes during the afternoon of Day 2 of CWE at their respective college/school advising session.

  11. If I attend an earlier session of CWE, will I have a better chance of getting classes?
No. There are a select number of classes withheld for each session of CWE so that each student has an equal chance of selecting the necessary and desired core courses. Whether you choose session 1 or 10, you will have the same opportunity for classes.

Parent Questions
  1. Are parents required to attend?
The CWE parent program is not required and a student will not be in any way disadvantaged if a parent does not attend. However, the parent program provides a wealth of information to parents of incoming freshmen to better familiarize them with the university and its programs and services.

  2. Where will parents stay?
While on-campus lodging is not provided for parents, there are numerous hotels in the Auburn-Opelika area that are available to Camp War Eagle parents. The Auburn and Opelika Tourism Bureau has provided a lodging brochure in the CWE confirmation packet and has additional resources on their web page.

Additionally, a block of guest rooms is being held at The Hotel at Auburn University with discounted rates specifically for Camp War Eagle parents and guests. To make a reservation at this discounted rate, click below, or call 334-821-8200.

  3. Will my student need any money?
    Your student will need money:
    • If he/she chooses to participate in "Ice Cream After Dark," which is one of the late night options on the first night of CWE. The Camp Counselors will be walking with interested students to Toomer's Drugs for ice cream and/or lemonade.

    • If he/she wants to join SAA (Student Alumni Association), although checks or eBill are acceptable.
    • If he/she chooses to eat meals and/or snacks not provided through CWE. Your student may also be interested in visiting one of the local bookstores for Auburn merchandise before or after Camp War Eagle.

    • If he/she arrives at CWE the night before the session starts and needs to eat dinner.

  4. Oops...my child forgot blankets, a pillow, a sleeping bag, etc.  How can I get these items to him/her?
Find a Parent Counselor (or any CWE staff member), and we can make sure your student gets whatever items you have for him/her.

  5. We have not yet taken care of the medical forms we need to.  Can my child still register for classes at CWE?
Each student will be asked to sign a Letter of Understanding.  This is a form that simply states you will turn in your necessary medical forms within 30 days of Camp War Eagle.  This form acts as a waiver that releases the registration hold on your student's record so he/she can register for classes.  If you are unsure if you have all the necessary forms, or you need a new copy, visit the AU Medical Clinic's website to download the necessary forms.

  6. I have a mobility issue that makes it difficult to walk long distances.  Can I still participate in CWE?
Yes! We will make every effort to accommodate your needs. We have a golf cart and a minivan that we can use to help you get where you need to go. If possible, please let us know in advance or advise a CWE staff member upon your arrival that you will need such accommodations.

  7. My child has a disability...what accommodations can be made during CWE?
Contact the Office of Accessibility at (334)844-2096. They will determine what accommodations would be appropriate for a productive and enjoyable CWE experience, and share any necessary information with our office. Disability information is highly confidential and should NOT be sent to the CWE office. More information can be found on the Office of Accessibility website.
  8. What happens if my child changes his/her major during CWE?  How will I find out about it?
All major changes will be posted on Day 1 of CWE at 1:00 p.m. in the Student Center, which is the day BEFORE you go to Academic Advising. That way you will know which college/school advising session to attend with your student. Please encourage your student to MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO CHOOSE MAJORS BEFORE ATTENDING CWE, AS MANY MAJORS ARE CLOSED AT CWE.

  9. When will my student register for classes?
Students will register for classes during the afternoon of Day 2 of CWE at their respective college/school. Parents are not permitted in the computer labs during the class registration process. CWE parent sessions will be occurring in the Student Center while your students are registering for classes.

  10. Do I go through CWE with my student?  If not, when will we see each other?
The student program and parent program of CWE are two distinct programs with separate schedules. You may view these schedules on the respective Student or Parent program pages. You may see your child at:
    • Concurrent Sessions on Day 1 (If you elect to attend the same sessions)
    • The Pep Rally (Although parents and students are seated separately
    • Academic Advising on Day
    • Lunch and Tiger Tables on Day 2 (If you elect to eat together)

  11. Should my student bring a computer to school?  Should it be a laptop or desktop?
A computer is a nice convenience for students, but it is not required by the University. There are computer labs located throughout campus that are available for student use. If you bring a computer, you will need to decide which type is easier and you should ask your department, college or school during CWE to see if they have any requirements or recommendations. More specific answers and information can be found from the Office of Information Technology at (334)844-4944 or by visiting their website.
