Dr. Cavender has been at Auburn since 1978 and has served in a variety of administrative capacities in the College of Human Sciences, most recently as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  In addition to that experience, she has served as Head for her home department and has extensive experience in course and curriculum development and international programming. 

In her current role as Assistant Provost, she is co-chair of  the University Curriculum Committee, serves as the Provost’s designee on the Admissions Appeals Committee, Special Lectures Committee, and the University Committee for Students with Disabilities.  She is continuing Chair of the Graduation Committee, and in that capacity,  she serves as Faculty Marshal for commencement. Dr. Cavender is responsible for the University Bulletin and is liaison to the Office of the Dean of Students for academic related student publications.  Dr. Cavender handles special projects in support of undergraduate education; currently, she is liaison for academic policy issues for the Student Banner implementation team.  Dr. Cavender serves as the institutional point of contact for Articulation and General Studies Committee.
