Stage 1 Preliminary Planning ( 4 Months. Complete by the end of April,  2001)

April, 2001

1)

At the annual SACS meeting consult with Commission staff.
2) Notify and inform the institutional constituencies of the initiation of the self-study
3) Appoint the Steering Committee (Primarily principal committee chairs)
4) Appoint the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
5) Kick-off visit by COC staff member.
6) Appoint the members of the principal committees.
7) Review institutional effectiveness systems (includes planning, evaluation, assessment, documentation). Are they considered adequate to support the self-study?
8) Formulate the self-study plan.
9) Forward the self-study plan to COC staff member.
Stage 2 Initiating the Self-Study (3 Months, Complete by the end of July,  2001)

July, 2001

1) Formulate the Self-Study manual
2) Hold orientation meetings for the principal committees.
3) Fact Book: collect, organize and publish a basic institutional reference data book.
4) Develop and distribute writing and editing guidelines.
Stage 3 Conducting the Self-Study(10 Months. Complete by the end of May, 2002)

May, 2002

1) Activate the principal committees.
2) Review any reports regarding institutional purpose and effectiveness.
3) Construct and administer surveys of faculty, staff, students & administration.
4) Compile survey results
5) Receive and review progress reports from principal committees.
6) Forward the reports of the principal committees to Steering Committee for review and when necessary for action.
7) Near the end of this stage the Steering Committee decides which committee work needs to be continue.
8) Complete the principal committees final reports
9) Complete and forward progress report to COC staff member.
10) Complete the first draft of the self-study report.
Stage 4

Final Report (5 Months. Complete by the end of October, 2002)

October,  2002

1) Do an institution-wide review of the first draft of the self-study report.
2) Using input from the institution-wide review, compile and complete the final self-study report.
3) Distribute the final self-study report locally.
4) Develop addendum to the self-study report as needed.
5) Develop a follow-up plan to the self-study report.
Stage 5

Preparing for the SACS Visiting Committee (5 Months. Complete by the end of March, 2003)

March, 2003

1) Send copy of self-study report to the COC visiting committee chair prior to his/her preliminary visit (January, 2000).
2) Receive preliminary visit by COC visiting committee Chair.
3) Complete planning and arrangements for COC visiting committee.
4) Mail self-study and other materials to COC and to visiting committee members.
5) Inform institutional community of impending visit by COC Reaffirmation Committee.
6) Host COC Reaffirmation Committee on campus.
Stage 6

Review of Action by COC

after

April, 2003

1) Review draft of visiting committee report for errors of fact. 
2) Receive and respond to recommendations in final report of visiting committee.
