Young Women Leaders Program
The Young Women Leaders Program is an exciting service-learning course for the 2012-2013 academic school year. We pair outstanding undergraduate women with 8th and 9th grade girls from Auburn Jr High and Loachapoka HS. We are an after school, curriculum based mentoring program with a focus on issues facing teen girls. Mentors-“Big Sisters” are expected to spend time with their Little Sister one on one weekly, in addition to fun group activities. This is a 5 credit, 2 semester commitment, as research shows the Little Sisters benefit most when the relationship lasts longer. Expect a typical course workload, as there are assignments directly related to obstacles facing the responsibility of being a mentor, and learning about the serious and complicated issues faced by young girls in need. As expressed by our previous Big Sisters, joining YWLP makes a huge difference in a young girl’s life, leads to long lasting bonds, builds your own leadership and confidence, and looks great for graduate school or for your future career!
See our FAQ sheet and brochure for commonly asked questions and addtional information about the program.
