Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Leadership Council (DMALC)
Purpose: The Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Leadership Council was established in 2008. The purpose of the Council is to provide support in continual development of the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Auburn University. This support is in full recognition of the need for the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs to maintain programs of excellence that promote diversity and equal opportunity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Council will
- Provide advice and counsel to the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
- Assist the Associate Provost in providing resources necessary to effectively attain the objective of having and maintaining programs of excellence in the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.
- Work with the faculty, staff, and alumni of Auburn University, the faculty and staff of local schools, and appropriate persons, in recruiting students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds for entrance into Auburn University's academic programs and positions.
- Have its members serve as mentors for current women and minority students at Auburn University.
Organization: The Council will consist of 25 individuals, and the immediate past chair of the council. At least 2 positions should be held by graduates who have completed their degree in the past ten years and, if possible, one of these should have graduated in the past 5 years. Names of the nominees for council membership shall be submitted to the Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs for formal invitation.
Members of the Council that miss two consecutive meetings will be designated associate members and become ex-officio. Members shall serve for three (3) years and shall be elected in such a manner that the terms of one-third of the members expire each year. A member shall serve only two (2) consecutive terms. A concentrated effort shall be made to assure that the membership of the Council is representative of business, government, and industry in Alabama and the Southeastern region of the United States.
Committees: The Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Leadership Council activities and meetings will be organized through the implementation of the committee-structure. The Executive Committee will include the Chair of the Council, the Chair-Elect of the Leadership Council, the Past-Chair of the Council, and Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs (Ex-Officio). Other committees will include Development Committee, Recruitment and Retention Committee, and Multicultural Affairs Committee.

Next Meeting: The Council regularly meets during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Notices of the meetings shall be forwarded to each member prior to the meeting date. Special meetings of the Council may be called by the Chair upon his or her initiative, upon request by the Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs or upon the request by any four members of the Council. Members of the Council that miss two consecutive meetings will be designated associate members and become ex-officio.
