Day of Ceremony Information

Graduates

Undergraduate, Master, and Specialist Degree Candidates

  • Arrive 45 minutes before the ceremony. Ceremonies begin promptly on time. No one will be seated on the floor after ceremonies begin.
  • Enter through designated doors at the main Arena entrance (north end).

Doctoral Degree Candidates

  • Arrive one hour before the ceremony.
  • Enter through the Scholarship Entrance adjacent to the Arena parking lot. Family and friends with reserved seating tickets given by the Graduate School should enter through the Scholarship Entrance as well. All other guests should enter at the main Arena entrance (north end).
  • An Auburn University ID or government issued ID will be required to enter.
  • Report to Room 2120 for ceremony instructions.

Courtesy Shuttle

  • A cart adjacent to the parking lot for persons with accessibility issues will be available to provide rides between the parking lot and the main Arena entrance (north end).

Seating

  • Bachelor’s degree candidates can seat themselves in the section designated for their college/school. Seating by alphabetical order is not required.
  • Master’s and Specialist’s degree candidates should seat themselves in the master’s section (Graduate School).
  • Doctoral degree candidates should report to Room 2120 in the Auburn Arena to line up for the processional with the student’s major professor.

Safety and Security

  • All students are screened upon entering the Arena.
  • You are responsible for carrying your cap and gown or be prepared to remove or lift it above your shoulders.
  • Small purses are allowed but will be searched by security personnel. Large bags and backpacks are prohibited.

Audience

Entry into the Auburn Arena

  • Doors open to the public two hours before each ceremony. Security personnel will open doors; entrance to the Arena prior to the official time is prohibited.
  • Use the main Arena entrance (north end). Doors for guests and graduates will be indicated separately.
  • Please note, if attending the second ceremony of the day, some guests and graduates from the first ceremony may still be clearing the Arena at the beginning of the two-hour window.

Seating:

  • Saving seats for multiple guest’s later arrival is discouraged. If access problems necessitate saving a few seats, please limit them to no more than four seats in one row. Please do not leave a single seat in the middle of a row.

Safety and Security:

  • All bags will be searched prior to entry into the Arena. This includes purses, bags, strollers, and ambulatory assistance devices (wheelchairs, crutches, canes, etc.).
  • Guests with no purses, bags, or ambulatory devices can use door designated “Express Entry – No Bags” located adjacent to the north entry doors.
  • Prohibited items include weapons, alcohol, backpacks larger than 12x12x12, artificial noisemakers, umbrellas, wrapped gifts, cameras with lenses over 4 inches in length, tripods, coolers, outside food and beverage, hover boards, stadium seats with arms, and any other items deemed unsafe by law enforcement personnel at time of entry.
  • In the event of severe weather, please stay in the seating area as it is the best location to seek shelter. If other action is needed, event personnel will notify the graduates and audience.
  • If you have any problems or see something suspicious, please notify any of the police officers in or around the Arena or dial 911 immediately.
