Special Assistant to the Provost for Human Resources
Ransel was born in Munster, Indiana and received a bachelor's degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned a master's degree in Environmental Science from Ohio University in Athens. However, her career led her in other directions, gaining experience in personnel-related fields. For a number of years she was Personnel Specialist for NBD Highland Park Bank in Illinois. Ransel moved to Auburn, Alabama in 1989 and became the Human Resource Specialist for Auburn University Libraries. While working at AU Libraries she gained a national reputation for her development and implementation of a library career ladder resulting in promotional opportunities for library support staff, published four journal articles, delivered numerous presentations, and consulted at various colleges and universities on this topic.
After over sixteen years at the Libraries, in March 2007, Ransel was promoted to her current position as Special Assistant to the Provost, Human Resources. In this capacity she has broadened the scope of her responsibilities to include: oversight for all tenure track and non-tenure track faculty recruitment and hiring, employee relations, classification and compensation, compliance with state and federal employment laws, and guidance and assistance to colleges and schools in the interpretation of human resource policies and procedures for university employees.
She has two married children; Brian (Katie) living in Waverly, AL and Lindsey (Ryan) residing in Pensacola, FL.
