Message to the Faculty Regarding Digital Measures

September 8, 2011

Dear Faculty,

This message is designed to clarify issues regarding important concerns expressed by faculty members to the Provost’s Office concerning the Digital measures implementation.

Provost Office Requirements

The Provost’s Office is asking faculty to input two sets of information.

The first is the faculty member’s accomplishments for calendar year 2011.  Some units may be requiring more than one year’s information but the Provost’s Office is only requesting one year’s information.  Please contact your unit head for any additional unit requirements.  Please note that units can provide administrative help within the unit to faculty by having the unit head contact Dr. Iryna Johnson, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA), with the names of the faculty and the unit administrative personnel that will provide the help.  By doing so, OIRA can provide the appropriate support for the unit.

The second is the information needed to use Digital Measures information for our SACS accreditation reaffirmation process. In most cases this is simply a matter of selecting the “terminal degree in the discipline” option for courses taught within the discipline by faculty who have the terminal degree in the discipline. Additionally, the faculty need to input their educational information in the education screen in Digital Measures.

Deadline

The Provost’s Office is requesting that its minimum requirements be accomplished by all faculty by December 31, 2011.  This is will enable us to generate the SACS report for Fall 2011 in a timely manner.

Faculty Annual Review

At the present time, it is impossible to provide a university-wide Faculty Annual Review (FAR) report in Digital Measures because the university does not have a standard FAR template. Within Auburn's Digital Measures configuration, there is an available output report titled "Faculty Annual Report." This is a mock-up of an annual report that came with the system, and it may or may not be appropriate for faculty in a given unit, depending on the specific requirements of that unit's FAR. An option that may be helpful for some faculty is to produce this base report as a Word document for subsequent customization as needed. More information about customizing unit specific FAR reports is available from OIRA.

Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) Request

The OVPR has requested that all faculty upload their CVs into Digital Measures. For more information about this request, please contact your unit leadership.  Unit leaders who have questions about this process should contact Dr. Carl Pinkert, OVPR.

I hope that this memo helps to answer your questions about Digital Measures and provides you with the contacts that you need to move forward.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tim Boosinger, Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
