Jenna Bloemer has been with the Harrison School of Pharmacy since 2012, when she began her Pharm.D. program. She was accepted into the Pharm.D./Ph.D. program in 2013, and joined the lab of Vishnu Suppiramaniam. The major focus of the lab is synaptic mechanisms of learning and memory, especially in animal models of disease.
Bloemer’s research interests include molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease pathology with a focus on metabolic dysfunctions that occur in the brain in Alzheimer’s disease. Her primary project involves studying the effects of the hormone adiponectin on cognition and synaptic plasticity. As part of the Pharm.D./Ph.D. program, she also works at as a pharmacist at a Veteran’s Affairs outpatient clinic in Columbus, Georgia, under the supervision of clinical faculty member Pamela Stamm.
