The New Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Orientation (formerly called Convocation) is an academicorientation to teaching for GTAs who will be instructors of record, teach labs or have other significant teaching responsibilities. The Convocation is held each Fall semester prior to the start of classes. The day-long event includes plenary, interactive sessions, and a resource fair. It is highly recommended for all GTAs. Experienced faculty members will lead the plenary sessions (where all GTAs meet together) and the four concurrent sessions (in the afternoon) where you can choose from 3 different classes on important topics such as "Leading Discussions", "Effective Grading", "Teaching Labs" and "Academic Writing" amongst others.
