In May 2006 the Auburn University Montgomery School of Nursing celebrated the 25th anniversary of its first graduating class. In recognition of this historic milestone, the Alumni Advisory Council in the School of Nursing would like to establish the Kathryn Barnett Alumni Scholarship Endowment. Dr. Kathryn Barnett was the first dean of the Auburn University Montgomery School of Nursing. With visions of creating a phenomenal nursing school, Barnett garnered community support, hired six faculty members and founded the AUMSON. Determined to beat all odds, Barnett fought tirelessly to secure adequate funding in the form of physical and fiscal resources to make the AUMSON the great institution it is today. While gaining support from the community, health care agencies and individuals, she earned the respect of all whom she encountered. From the first graduating class in 98 to the current class of 2007, Barnett’s high ideals and commitment to excellence continue despite her retirement in 995. Her spirit of enthusiasm and love of nursing will always have a prominent presence in the AUMSON.
