Overview
Jenny Schuessler received her undergraduate degree in Nursing from Jacksonville State University and a master's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In 1994, she completed a Doctorate of Science in Nursing from UAB. The focus of her doctoral research was perceived control over visitation and outcomes in critically ill patients. Schuessler's research program continues to revolve around critically ill patients, currently focusing on patients with congestive heart failure and cardiovascular disease in women. Schuessler's papers on baccalaureate nursing education, curriculum development, and evaluation have been reported in a variety of journals including Journal of Nursing Education, Nursing Outlook, and Nurse Educator.

Schuessler joined the AU faculty in 1990 and currently serves as Assistant Dean. She teaches critical care concepts in the senior level advanced clinical course and Cardiovascular nursing throughout the cirriculum. In May 2002, she was awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. She is currently serving as an item writer for the Essentials of Critical Care Orientation Program of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. In 2006, Dr. Schuessler was selected as a Leadership Fellow by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
