Overview
Jenny Schuessler received her undergraduate degree in Nursing
from Jacksonville State University and a master's degree from the University
of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In 1994, she completed a Doctorate of
Science in Nursing from UAB. The focus of her doctoral research was perceived
control over visitation and outcomes in critically ill patients. Schuessler's
research program continues to revolve around critically ill patients,
currently focusing on patients with congestive heart failure and cardiovascular
disease in women. Schuessler's papers on baccalaureate nursing education,
curriculum development, and evaluation have been reported in a variety
of journals including Journal of Nursing Education, Nursing Outlook,
and Nurse Educator.
Schuessler joined the AU faculty in 1990 and currently serves as Associate Dean. She teaches critical care concepts in the senior level advanced clinical course and Cardiovascular nursing throughout the curriculum. In May 2002, she was awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. In 2006, Dr. Schuessler was selected as a Leadership Fellow by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
