Overview
William Pope received his initial nursing education at Gordon College in Barnesville, Georgia. He entered the RN-BSN program at Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) and received his degree in 1998. He received his MSN from Samford University in 2000. He completed requirements for the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Samford University in 2009. The focus of his doctoral research was transitioning registered nurses into a psychiatric-mental health setting. Pope’s research project continues to center around the mental health workforce.

Pope joined the AU faculty in 2009 and currently teaches psychiatric-mental health nursing. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the Student Nurses Association and serves on the Teaching Effectiveness Committee of the University Senate. Prior to joining the faculty at AU, he worked for the State of Alabama in the Department of Mental Health. He worked at Searcy Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Alabama and Greil Memorial Psychiatric Mental Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. He has additional nursing experience in Emergency and Critical Care nursing. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Alabama State Nurses Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, National League of Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
