Social Work Club Calendar
Spring 2007
The social work club is working on several different projects this semester. We have meetings every other week twice a week. Tuesday nights at 6 pm at someone’s house and Fridays at 1 pm in Haley Center room 7009.
Here are some projects we are working on this semester:
- Hats for the Homeless: We are knitting hats and donating them to the homeless shelters in Montgomery and Columbus. We will have a booth on the concourse from February 7th to February 9th.
- Valentine’s Day bake sale: We are baking sweet treats to sell on the concourse. We will have a booth on the concourse February 13th and 14th. We will be raising money for a great cause.
- Social Workers appreciation month is March! Throughout the month we will be showing the social work professors and the social workers in our community how thankful we are for everything they do.
- Lobby Day: It is April 10th in Montgomery. We will be traveling as a group and wearing our awesome social work shirts. We’re always ready to stand up for what we, as social workers, believe in. Lobby day is a great way to demonstrate that.
- Relay for Life: It is on April 20th at the Southern Union track. The club is going to raise money for a good cause. If you want to participate you can register online at www.cancer.org
- Displace Me: Saturday April 28th people from all over will be traveling to Atlanta to sleep on the streets. This is a one night event to raise awareness for the starving children in Uganda who where effected by the war in their country
- Clothing and book drive: Throughout the semester the club will be organizing a clothing and book drive. More information is coming soon.
- Fundraising: We are going to be waitressing at places like Tiger’s Den to raise extra money for our cause. We work for free and keep all the tips. Dates for that will be posted soon. We will also be doing carwashes and other things.
- The next meeting will be Tuesday February 13th at 6 pm. The location and directions can be emailed to you if you would like to join. The next on campus meeting will be Friday the 16th at 1 pm in Haley Center room 7009.
- We are still looking for a BIG CAUSE! The goal of the club this semester is to reach out to people in our community. We are looking for a way to do that. All the money we raise this semester will be put towards this cause.
