Program Objectives
Objectives
of the Auburn University's Social Work Program evolve from the goals
of the Program. These objectives encompass the knowledge, skill, and
attitude components of practice that are necessary for successful provision
of beginning level social work services. Objectives are listed below.
Students obtaining bachelor's degrees from the Auburn University's Social Work Program will:
Objective 1
Students will apply critical thinking skills within the context of professional social work practice
Objective 2
Students will understand the value base of the profession and its ethical standards and principles and practice accordingly.
Objective 3
Students will practice without discrimination and with respect, knowledge, and skills related to clients' age, class, color, culture, disability, ethnicity, family structure, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation.
Objective 4
Students will understand the forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination and apply strategies of advocacy and social change that advance social and economic justice.
Objective 5
Students will understand and interpret the history of the social work profession and its contemporary structure and issues.
Objective 6
Students will apply the knowledge and skills of generalist practice work with systems of all sizes.
Objective 7
Students will use theoretical frameworks supported by empirical evidence to understand individual development and behavior across the life span and the interactions among individuals, and between individuals, groups, organizations and communities.
Objective 8
Students will analyze, formulate, and influence social policies.
Objective 9
Students will evaluate research studies, apply research finidings to practice, and evaluate their own practice interventions.
Objective 10
Students will use communication skills differently across client populations, colleagues, and communities.
Objective 11
Students will use supervision and consultation appropriate to social work practice
Objective 12
Students will function within the structure of organizations and service delivery systems and seek necessary organizational change.
