Dr. McEldowney Resigns as Program Director

Dr. Rene' McEldowney has stepped down as HA Program Director, citing recent uncertainties about continued funding by the College of Liberal Arts for HA Program certification by the Association of Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Shortly after her resignation, the Chair of the Department of Political Science announced that full funding for this year's AUPHA affiliation would be granted.

Dr. McEldowney has served as Director of the Health Administration Program since 1999. During her term of office, Dr. McEldowney oversaw the successful elevation of HA's AUPHA affiliation from candidate status to full status and was instrumental in the creation of such new courses as Managed Care and the Capstone Seminar. She also instituted the first use of site visits to insure quality student internships.

Long-time colleague Dr. Mark Burns commented: "Dr. McEldowney's diligence and self-sacrifice on behalf of our Program have contributed greatly to the national status of Auburn's Program in Health Administration. It is a shame that the abilities of an administrator of Dr. McEldowney's caliber should be lost to the HA Program."
