Percussion Studies

Percussionists at Auburn University study in four main areas of percussion including snare drum (rudimental and orchestral), mallets, timpani and drum set. Students take an hour long lesson each week concentrating on mallets and one other area every semester. Secondary idioms such as Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and orchestral accessory percussion are included in a weekly studio class. Students are also expected to perform solo works during this studio period.

The Auburn University Music Department offers a diverse selection of musical experiences for its students. Performance opportunities for percussionists include the Auburn University Drumline, Percussion Ensemble/Steel Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Campus Band, Jazz Band, Auburn University/Community Orchestra and the Auburn University Singers.
