The Literature Concentration
The aim of the concentration in literature is to introduce the student to significant texts in both British and American traditions. Its intention is to provide a broad grounding in the chronology of authors and periods while also making the student aware of important philosophical, political, social, and cultural developments that affected both the writers and their texts.
The literature concentration also allows the student to pursue further study in an area of literature of his or her choice. The concentration consists of five courses (15 credits) listed below:
1 3000-level literature survey
1 4000-level literature course before 1800
1 4000-level literature course after 1800
ENGL4030 Interpreting
Texts
One course organized generically or topically,
or by author rather than chronologically
The Literature Concentration has allowed me to read, study, and understand a diverse body of texts, cultures, and individuals. The courses I have taken have not only prepared me for graduate school, but given me a desire to continue to read and study literature. |
