include a self-addressed stamped envelope, or a self-addressed
envelope with international reply coupons, even for a reply
only. Queries are welcome. Simultaneous submissions
are NOT accepted. Email submissions are NOT accepted. Submit
poetry, fiction, and essays separately, as different editors
will consider them. Do not submit a second manuscript if
we already have one from you under consideration. With the
exception of translations, we do not consider material that
has been published elsewhere. In prose submissions use one-inch
margins and double line spacing. Prepare manuscripts using
the MLA Handbook. Use at least a 10-pt. font. If
you use an ink printer, make sure the print is dark. Payment
is two contributors' copies; copyright reverts to author
upon publication. Response time usually varies from two
weeks to three months, depending on the editors' other responsibilities,
but might be a bit slower in summer.
Please do not assume from
our name that we're interested in Southern literature or
research topics only; any setting or subject matter is acceptable,
but do avoid excessive vulgarity, profanity, and jargon
(medical or military, for example).
Send
three to five poems at a time. It is wise to submit no more
than four times per year unless the editors ask to see more
of your work. We rarely print a poem longer than two
pages. Translations are encouraged, but please include the
original AND written permission from the copyright holder
for you to publish a translation.
Send
only one story per submission. Manuscripts should
be between 3,500 and 15,000 words, double-spaced.

of the content of the book, and about one third to your
evaluation. Please pay particular attention to the forms
