The Portable Poetry Project

If you enjoyed the Haley Center Poetry Project and were wishing to see it again or you wished that your students could have seen some of it, then wish no further. Craig Bertolet has put together a video tape of many of the readers whom he filmed presenting poetry on October 24 and 25. The sound and picture quality are quite good. Please e-mail Craig if you want to use the tape in one of your classes. And again, we thank everyone who made this event a success!

English Hour: Multiculturalism in Great Books

Looking to spice up your Great Books reading list, or just to add pleasure to your own reading this coming Holiday Season? Come to the last English Hour of the term on the Monday we return from Thanksgiving Break (Nov. 26). A distinguished panel, including Dr. Joy Leighton, Dr. Corrie Claiborne, and Dr. Penny Ingram, will speak on the integration of multicultural texts into Great Books curriculum. As usual, we will convene in HC 3104 at 4:00. Refreshments will be served.

How to Apply to Graduate School

Undergraduates thinking about applying to graduate school are invited to an open forum discussion on "How to Apply to Graduate School (and Why You Would Want To)," on Thursday, November 29 at 4:00 in the Eagle's Nest. Dr. Jeremy Downes, our own Coordinator of Graduate Studies, and two recent survivors of the application process will be on hand to describe the process, offer advice, and answer your questions. Bring a friend: the application process is never easy, but there is solace in numbers.

On November 10, 2001, Leslie Worthington presented her paper "Byron's Everlasting Influence: The Modern Byronic Hero in Andrei Bely's Petersburg and T. S. Eliot's 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'" at the American Conference on Romanticism at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
