Web Directory Update Continues--Please Respond!
Help us update the Department Web Directory. Fill in this survey
now if you are new or have new information (e.g. a new web site).
If nothing has changed over the last year, please disregard this survey.
If you do not want certain information on the web, leave the according
space blank. The only space that has to be filled is your email space.
If you do not want your email address activated in the directory, mark
the appropriate box. If you give us your web address, we assume that you
want an active link.
We would also like to remind all faculty that we are about to update
biographical information. Please start thinking about your bio, so
that you can give it to us on disk as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please contact Betsy
Smith or Rosemary Steck.
Scott Fitzgerald's Birthday Open House
You're invited to enjoy refreshments, a video, and a tour on September
24, 2000, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Come to the Scott & Zelda
Fitzgerald Museum, 919 Felder Avenue, Montgomery. For more information, call (334) 262-4222. Contact
Kelly Gerald if you are interested in a ride to
Montgomery.
Soccer Enthusiasts Resume Play
Soccer on Sunday afternoons begins this Sunday, September 17, 2000 at 1:30
p.m. at the Shug Jordon soccer fields on Shug Jordan Parkway (between Donahue Drive and the
overpass, next to the fire station).
If you have soccer equipment, i.e. balls and pumps, please bring them,
and don't forget to bring plenty of water.
Background for newcomers: a few of us started playing last year
under the tutelage of Phil Cavalier, who is now in North Carolina. Our philosophy was to have
fun, kick the ball, keep injuries to a minimum, and develop basic soccer skills. There will
be no slide tackles or other unnecessarily aggressive/violent play--we're trying to keep this
friendly and fun. Speaking from personal experience, it was a blast! Please come give it a
go. --Jessica Van Slooten
Question of the Week
With each publication of The English Channel, I'll be selecting a
"Question of the Week" to feature in The English Channel Forum. Of course, I ask that you please
send me your suggestions, by the usual deadline for the publication of
the newsletter. This week's question: "What do you think about teaching on the semester system?" Please respond to the question in the Forum. If you have a
suggestion for "Question of the Week," please send it to George
Crandell. If you've forgotten your password, please contact
George Crandell.
If you would like to include an item in the
"Professional Notes" section of The English Channel, please submit your note
to George Crandell.
To complete some unfinished citations in her book manuscript,
Jacqueline Foertsch is in search of the Library's copies of The Critical
Response to Kurt Vonnegut (ed. Mustazza) and Vonnegut's novel Deadeye
Dick. If you are currently holding these books, or know of a student who
is, could you arrange to lend them to her for an hour or so, by e-mailing
Jacqueline Foertsch? She does not want to have to recall these texts from the
current borrower, and would very much appreciate a brief time with them,
sometime within the next ten days.
Shawn M. Knight will be performing the role of Shelley Levene in David
Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross on September 20-21 (Wednesday-Thursday) at 5:15 p.m.
in the Auburn University Theatre upstairs. Admission is free, as the
production is directed by a student, Zane Reeves, in partial fulfillment
of his theatre degree requirements, but only fifty seats are available at
each performance. If you are interested, contact Shawn for more information.
If you would like to include an item in the
"Personal Notes" section of The English Channel, please submit your note
to George Crandell.
