Book Author Reception Honorees

Make plans now to attend the English Department’s Book Author Reception, scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2001 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Pebble Hill. We will be honoring those faculty members in the department who have published books between the time of the last departmental reception and December 31, 2000 (we plan a similar reception in 2002 for authors whose books are published in 2001).
Faculty members to be honored include: Paula Backscheider, Jon Bolton, Jeremy Downes, Tim Dykstal, George Crandell, Don Cunningham, Peter Huggins, Taylor Littleton, Patrick Morrow, Tom Nunnally, Constance Relihan, Robin Sabino, Betsy Smith, Judy Troy, and Hilary Wyss.
If you are among those people who should be honored and your name does not appear here, please contact
George Crandell.

Linguist to Light Up Love Life at Luncheon

On February 14th, balladeer Tom Nunnally will fire pheromones and heighten hormones as he croons favorite love songs at the Valentine's Luncheon of the Auburn University Academy of Lifelong Learners (AUALL).

Softball Sluggers Warming Up for Spring Season

Intramural softball is looming dangerously close for the mighty English Department sluggers. If you are interested in participating as an "athlete" or just as a fan, and you want to be included on the email list, please contact Patsy Fowler. She will keep you posted on practices, games, and post-game revelries.

Question of the Week

What are some better ways of handling students who come to class unprepared? Please respond to this week's question in The Forum. If you have forgotten your password, please contact George Crandell.

Paula Backscheider is one of the "experts" the Chronicle of Higher Education quotes on the movie Cast Away--in a column, "A Beached Boy and Human Ingenuity," in the February 2, 2001 issue, page B4.
Tristanne Connolly's manuscript, William Blake and the Body, has been accepted by Palgrave, and will be published in 2002.
Amy Jo Formby's thesis, "Theoretical Foundations and Pedagogical Implications of Multiculturalism and Conflict Resolution: Effecting Change in a Secondary English Classroom," has been accepted for presentation at the University of Georgia (Athens) Multicultural South Graduate Student Conference on March 30, 2001.
