English Graduate Organization 2004 - Boost Your EGO
EGO is a multi-faceted organization that offers a support system for graduate
students through programs and social functions, has representatives on departmental committees, and voices the concerns of graduate students in the English Department.Co-chairs for 2004-2005 are Robin B
ates, 5th year PhD in Shakespeare, and Julie Anne Zorn, 2nd year MTPC.
The first EGO meeting will be held today, September 1, at 3:15 pm in the Eagle's Nest North. Come to the meeting to hear what EGO has planned for the coming year.
Faculty Meeting with Provost Hanley - September 1
Provost Hanley will attend the faculty meeting today, September 1. The meeting will be held in 3195 Haley Center at 3 pm.
Biggio Center Professional Development Seminar - September 2
The Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at Auburn University will begin its Professional Development Seminar Series on Thursday, September 2. All Auburn University and PFF Cluster Institution faculty and graduate students are invited to attend.
Seminars will be held in Foy 202 and start with refreshments at noon - participants are asked to bring their own lunches; beverages and cookies will be provided. Dr. James E. Groccia will begin his presentation, "A Model for Understanding College Teaching," at 12:15 pm.
Literature After Dark - September 8
The Piano (1993), the second film in the fall season of "Literature After Dark," will be shown on Wednesday, September 8, at 7:30 pm in 3195 Haley Center. This film, a tale of a woman's struggle and growth in mid-nineteenth century New Zealand, stars Holly Hunter and Harvey Keitel.
College of Liberal Arts Reception - September 8
The College of Liberal Arts invites all faculty and staff of the College to a reception to celebrate the new academic year. The reception is Wednesday, September 8, from 5 to 7:30 pm at The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Please RSVP by Friday, September 3, to Deborah Ward.
New Directions '04 Faculty Retreat - September 11
The faculty retreat, New Directions 'O4, will be held on Saturday, September 11, from 8:30 am to 1 pm at Keisel Park. A map of Keisel Park can be found online.
Job Placement Informational Meeting for Graduate Students - September 14
All graduate students and instructors are invited to attend an informational meeting regarding job placement on Tuesday, September 14, at 4 pm in 8009 Haley Center. MTPC Oral Exam - Christopher Miller - September 28 at 3:30 pm
Master of Technical and Professional Communication (MTPC) students fulfill their degree requirements by completing an oral exam and portfolio presentation. During the oral exam, students present many of the documents they have created in their MTPC classes and that appear in their portfolios. Students also incorporate information from their course readings and discussions into their presentations.
Members of the student's advisory committee conduct the oral exam. Department members and guests are invited to attend and ask questions.
English Department Banners Now Available
If you are representing the English department at campus or off-campus events, you are welcome to use the new banners and tablecloth to promote our department. The large banner is hanging in 9030D Haley Center; the tablecloth can also be found in 9030D Haley Center; and the small banner is hanging in 8009 Haley Center. Rose Awarded State Council on the Arts Fellowship
Charlie Rose has been awarded an Alabama State Council on the Arts fellowship grant in literature/fiction for 2004-2005.
Historic Photo Exhibition by Dr. Michele Ronnick
Auburn University's Center for Diversity and Race Relations presents Dr. Michele Ronnick's historic photo exhibition in Foy Student Union's Exhibit Lounge (room 217). Ronnick's photos feature African-American classical scholars such as William Sanders Scarborough, Lewis Baxter Moore, John Wesley Gilbert, William Henry Crogman, and Edward Wilmot Blyden.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday until September 16.
