Upgrading the Department Work Areas (8011, 8097, 9007, 9009)
Over the next few weeks we will be upgrading the English Department work areas. 8097 will be closed until further notice beginning on Thursday, May 5. The new computers are on their way.
If you use HC 8011, 8097, 9007, or 9009, you need to save any files you have on the hard drives to a different location. The new computers will have CD burners and two USB (key drive) ports on the monitor for easy access. The computers will not have zip drives.
Before we move the new computers in, we will have each room painted, floors waxed, and other general maintenance work done. To accomplish this, rooms will have to be shutdown and emptied for a few days, but we plan to do one room at a time to avoid too much disruption.
The one bookcase in HC 8011 that does not contain World Literature materials will be cleaned. Books will be given away or discarded, as appropriate. If you want any of the books, please remove them by the end of the day May 12.
Please see Betsy Smith if you need help with saving your computer files or have questions about the changes to the work areas.
The Quilts of Gee's Bend in Context - Using the Quilts in Your Classroom
The Quilts of Gee's Bend exhibit opens September 11, and the faculty involved in the Quilts of Gee's Bend in Context research project hope you will consider taking a class to the museum and or incorporating a lesson on the quilts in your classes in the fall.
Please visit the research project's website to learn about the exhibit and particularly visit the page on "Teaching the Quilts." There you will find bibliography of texts that may tie into your courses in the fall, history and geography, links, and images of the quilts. This site will be updated throughout the summer so please visit it again before we resume classes in the fall. If you have any questions about the site or any feedback please contact Alicia Carroll.
