Auburn
University alumna Molly Smith earned her PhD in English, specializing
in Renaissance literature. When Smith was a graduate student at
Auburn, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (1985-1988);
now Smith is the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton
Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. The
picture to the right shows Smith receiving the Merriwether
Fellowship in 1987. Pictured with her are H. Miller Solomon
and Margaret Kouidis. Solomon and Kouidis, along with Drew
Clark and Patrick Morrow, served on Smith's dissertation
committee.In 1991, Smith's dissertation--The Darker World Within: Evil in the Tragedies of Shakespeare and His Successors--was published by the University of Delaware Press and soon became the 1,999,999th volume acquisitioned by the University of Delaware Library. Also notable, the two-millionth volume the library acquisitioned was the Second Folio edition of William Shakespeare's plays, published in 1632. |

The Auburn Circle - Now Accepting Submissions
The University's general interest magazine, The Auburn Circle, is accepting submissions for the fall 2003 issue until Thursday, September 25. The fall issue will be available on Thursday, November 13.
The Circle invites all students, faculty, alumni, and Auburn University supporters to submit their fiction and non-fiction work, poetry, artwork, and other visual media.

The College of Liberal Arts will hold its second annual Scholarship Scramble on Friday, September 19, beginning at 10:00 am at the Moore's Mill Golf Club. The tournament is open to all faculty members. The English Department plans to have a team. If you are interested, contact George Crandell.
