Students
The
department seeks to admit approximately 6-8 new PhD students, 10-12 MA
students, and 5-7 MTPC students into the department
each year. In Fall 2002, 71 students
were enrolled, including 32 PhD, 31 MA, and 8 MTPC students. Students in our
programs have been active in university student governance, in university service,
and in service to the community. In addition, graduate students in the English
Department have their own English Graduate Organization, or EGO (as their latest
motto reads," the bigger, the better"). EGO works to foster communication
and support, and to improve conditions for graduate students.
Our students present and publish their research frequently on national and regional levels, and our department is strongly committed to graduate student representation in departmental processes. The English Channel and its Archives provide a wealth of data on student publications and presentations.
With a large and cohesive student group, already representing many locations in the USA and abroad, the department welcomes applicants who will add to its diversity.
