Advising

The initial adviser for all PhD students is the English Department’s Coordinator of Graduate Studies, who handles most registration matters. All PhD students also have an advisory committee consisting of three to five members of the graduate faculty. The committee, chaired by the student’s dissertation director, reflects faculty expertise in the three areas that the student has proposed for the general doctoral examination. When appropriate, changes in committee membership may be made at any time.
