Master of Arts in English

Our goal is for all students completing the MA to have developed a deep and broad understanding of English Studies, its contents, issues, approaches, and research methods. In achieving this goal, the program is designed to serve two distinct groups:

those who seek the MA as a terminal degree that will deepen and enhance their undergraduate major in English and
those who hope eventually to earn the PhD or another professional degree and become scholars and teachers in colleges and universities.

Students who take the MA as a capstone degree are prepared for careers in writing, editing, business, secondary and community college teaching, and other professions seeking broadly educated individuals with analytic and communication skills.

Students who take the MA as a foundation for doctoral study can enter professional preparation with the broadest possible base.
