MA Year Two Thesis Option

(This includes special concentrations)

Schedule:
Fall: Spring:
5/6 credit hours:
Graduate Course
Graduate Course (may be taken in the Spring)
Take MA Comprehensive exams over 3 areas
(if student is not taking 2 graduate courses, s/he may sign up for 2 or 3 credit hours of ENGL 7990)
Write thesis prospectus
3/6 credit hours:
Complete and defend your thesis (3 credit hours of ENGL 7990)
Graduate Course (may be taken in the Fall)

Additionally for GTAs:
Teach ENGL 1100 (one or two sections for a total of 3 per year)

 

Additionally for GTAs:
Teach 1120 (one or two sections for a total of 3 per year)
Requirements to Manage:
Fall: Spring:
Meet with faculty writing exams. (The names of area examiners are posted on the EGO Bulletin Board on the ninth floor).
Prepare the Certificate of Graduate Residency
Confirm your Graduate Advisory Committee and Thesis Director
Draft a Thesis Prospectus (this must be signed by your Advisory Committee and submitted early next semester - you should begin drafting it after you pass your comps to have it ready.
Turn in your final Plan of Study to the Graduate School and the CGS.
Do a graduation check at the Graduate School.
Apply for GRAD7@@0 (if needed).
Turn in a signed prospectus to the CGS by the third week of the semester.
Receive information from the Graduate School early in the semester about graduation.
Consult the Graduate School's Guide to Preparation and Submission of Thesis and Dissertations.
Pass the one-hour oral examination over the thesis.
Submit Form 9 (report of thesis-option final oral examination signed by the Advisory Committee) and the final approved thesis to the Graduate School and to the CGS.

Ask faculty members for letters of recommendation for continued graduate education or jobs.
Apply to the Graduate School for travel or research money.
Apply to PhD programs.
Apply for jobs.
Apply for jobs.
