MA Year One Non-Thesis Option

MA Program Requirements

The Graduate School at Auburn has several policies regarding GTAs that place limits on credit hours and summer courses. The following schedule meets these requirements, and we encourage you to adhere as closely as possible to this schedule. While individual situations may alter the specifics, please remember that master’s students may not hold a GTA for more than two academic years. Additionally, all GTAs must complete 18 hours of coursework in the Department of English by the end of their first year to renew their GTA. Finally, all graduate work toward a master's degree must be completed within a period of five calendar years.

Fall:	Spring:
9 credit hours: Graduate English Course (ENGL 7040 for GTAs) Graduate English Course Graduate English Course	9 credit hours: Graduate English Course Graduate English Course Graduate English Course
Additionally for GTAs: Co-teach ENGL 1100 (10 hrs/week) Tutor in the English Center (4 hrs/week) Attend the Practicum (2 hrs/week for 12 weeks)	Additionally for GTAs: Co-teach ENGL 1120 (10 hrs/week) Tutor in the English Center/work as Project Assistant (4 hrs/week) Attend the Practicum (2 hrs/week for 12 weeks)

Foreign Language Requirement: you must demonstrate reading proficiency in one foreign language before graduation. Identify and plan the way you will fulfill this requirement.	Identify your Graduate Advisory Committee File your Plan of Study with the Graduate School. The Department of English recommends that you file a plan of study the second semester of your first year; the Graduate School require that you file no later than the semester before graduation. FAILURE TO SUBMIT THIS FORM ON TIME MAY DELAY GRADUATION.

Apply to be a Project Assistant for Spring semester.	Apply for a competitive GT 100 position in the English Center for next Fall (additional hours on top of the three course teaching load). Apply for a position as Web Assistant or English Center Technical Assistant or for next year (each position carries a two course reduction per academic year). Comprehensive Exam Subject Areas. Use the summer to study and to define areas of interest.
