ENGL 7010 Technical & Professional Communication: Issues & Approaches

This course is an introduction to the discipline and profession of technical and professional communication. It is designed for graduate students who are majoring in technical and professional communication and for other graduate students--in English and from other departments--who are interested in preparing to be better communicators or preparing to teach technical writing or business writing courses. We will pay special attention to these topics: (1) historical and current practices in technical and professional communication, (2) the major forms, modes, and genres of technical and professional communication, and (3) the chief stylistic and rhetorical features of technical and professional communication.

Requirements:
1. Analysis of recent book on important issues in technical communication theory, practice, and pedagogy (both a written and oral presentation)

4. Workplace practice reort (both written and oral presentation)

5. WIP professional portfolio

Attendance policy: Class attendance and participation are expected. To receive a letter grade for the course, you must complete all assignments.
