Keith Gibson
In Document Design in Technical and Professional Communication (ENGL 5010/6010), we will study the theory and practice of document design and usability. We will read the work of several experts in the field (among them William Horton and Elizabeth Keyes) and apply the principles we learn. Specifically, we will focus on format design (as in websites and instruction manuals), effective visuals, and appropriate uses of typography, layout, and color. Throughout the semester, you can expect to obtain a working knowledge of document design theory, as well as plenty of practice working on a range of documents in a variety of professional settings.
Texts:

New York: Longman, 2003.
