WORLD LITERATURE LECTURES
Once or twice each year renowned scholars in certain areas of World Literature are invited to assist our faculty with teaching works in their area of expertise and to present a public lecture of broader interest. The first World Literature Lecturer, in March 2005, was Sabry Hafez, Professor of Arabic Studies at the University of London.
In November 2005 Sheldon Pollock, William B. Ransford Professor of Sanskrit and South Asian Studies at Columbia University will visit Auburn to conduct faculty seminars and present the second World Literature Lecture. Details will be announced on the English Channel. Direct questions to program coordinator Alexander Dunlop, dunloaw@auburn.edu or 844-9068.
WORLD LITERATURE FILM SERIES
Each semester the World Literature program will screen several films in coordination with the World Literature Lectures. In fall semester we plan to show three films from the Arab world and in spring semester three films from India. Admission is free and all are welcome. There will be a brown-bag lunch discussion of each film the following day. Details will be announced on the English Channel. Direct questions to program assistant Scott Nesbitt, nesbics@auburn.edu.
JULE COLLINS SMITH MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
Auburn’s exciting new museum has a strong collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century European and American paintings and plans to host one or more traveling exhibits a year. The museum staff is eager to assist instructors who wish to incorporate visual artworks into their World Literature courses and students who may wish to develop interdisciplinary writing projects for their World Literature classes. For information on coordinating museum holdings with course activities contact Scott Bishop Wagoner, Educational Curator for Auburn University, at bishogs@auburn.edu or 844-7014.
