Faculty Position
INSTRUCTORSHIPS
The Department of English at Auburn University anticipates making several Instructorship appointments for the 2007-2008 academic year, with a starting date of August 16th. These are one-year full-time appointments that may be renewed by mutual agreement for up to four additional years. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
Minimum qualifications include a Masters or PhD in English or related humanities field, broad literary training, a record of successful teaching of college-level composition, sophomore literature, and/or business and technical writing, and interest in teaching both writing and world literature. The candidates selected for the positions must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States and be able to communicate effectively in English.
Full-time Instructors teach seven courses over two semesters, typically 4-3. Typically, the courses are 3-hr. core curriculum courses in freshman composition and world literature; qualified Instructors may also teach courses in business writing and/or technical writing. The starting salary is $32,000 (PhD), $31,000 (ABD), or $29,000 (Masters); there is a possibility of summer teaching in addition. Full-time Instructors are eligible for benefits, including health insurance.

Desirable qualifications include a broad and deep knowledge of rhetorical theory and contemporary composition pedagogy to complement a well-defined research program as well as interest in one or more of the following: assessment, empirical research, new media writing, writing centers, and multicultural and/or historical rhetorics.

Assistant or Advanced Assistant Professor of English
The Department of English at Auburn University expects to make two appointments in 2008-09 for tenure-track positions as Assistant Professors in Technical and Professional Communication to begin Fall semester 2008. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
The teaching load is 3-2, and the successful applicants will join four tenured or tenure-track faculty in technical and professional communication and two in composition/rhetoric to teach graduate and undergraduate technical and professional communication courses in a large, supportive department.
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in technical and professional communication, rhetoric, or a closely related area by the August 16, 2008 starting date (ABDs may be considered; however, appointment to the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the earned doctorate); broad knowledge of technical and professional communication, good potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate technical and professional communication courses and in contributing to our well-established Master of Technical and Professional Communication program and our undergraduate minor in technical and professional communication; a promising scholarly agenda, good potential for publication, and good potential as a colleague for taking part in the life and work of the department. The candidates selected for these positions must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointments are scheduled to begin and be able to communicate effectively in English. In addition to meeting the required qualifications stated above, a candidate for appointment at the advanced Assistant Professor level must have at time of application at least two years of full-time experience in a tenure-track position in the field of technical and professional communication, a substantial record of high-quality scholarly publication, and an ongoing research program.
We are especially interested in innovative scholars at the entering or advanced Assistant level with the following desirable qualifications: administrative experience, successful experience in teaching university-level technical or professional communication courses in a computer-supported facility, and workplace experience in technical and professional communication.
