Minutes of the Instructional Technology Committee, September 14, 2004
Members Present: Craig Bertolet, Frances Collins, George Crandell, Don Cunningham, Alexander Dunlop, Jessica Lueders, Chris Miller, Sam Singer, Betsy Smith, and Shawna Thorp
Betsy Smith called the meeting to order at 10:02.
Betsy announced that much time is spent at the beginning of each semester in assigning the technology enhanced classrooms. The department “sort of” is assigned 4 of the rooms by the College of Liberal Arts and usually has access to 10 others. The impression is that there is greater demand for the TECs than there are rooms, although some members of the committee suggested surveying the faculty to determine who really uses those rooms and who would be willing to use a cart.
Betsy announced that the budget for faculty IT requests and upgrades of computers appears adequate. She also announced that computers in HC 3116 will be upgraded in the summer of 2005 and the computers in HC 3116 now will move into the 8th and 9th floor work areas. She also announced that new computers for the computer classrooms will be leased, rather than purchased, in the future.
Betsy described the continuing development of the departmental website and requests that program coordinators should notify her of changes or additions they wish to make to their area of the website.
Betsy and Sam Singer described the development of databases for the department that will result in more stable, more secure, and more easy-to-use databases.
Betsy announced that the College of Liberal Arts has increased its IT staff to gain more control over the information technology environment in the college. She sees this as a good development.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:45.
