Who are the English Center Consultants?
Answer: The English Center consultants are undergraduate and graduate students recommended by faculty members and administrators to work in the Center. They have all received special training in consulting with students about writing and reading. Many are experienced teachers of composition and world literature courses themselves.
How can I use the English Center?
Answer: You may make an appointment through our online appointment book to work with a consultant at a particular time, or you may stop by for a walk-in tutoring session. In addition, you may access an English Center consultant via the chat on this website. Both the walk-in and on-line services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Although its primary emphasis is on face-to-face and on-line tutoring, the English Center also has a hotline. If you have a question that can be answered simply and quickly, you may call the Center at (334) 844-5749.
What are the English Center's hours?
Answer: The English Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Please note that the English Center is closed an additional 2-3 hours per week for tutor training, and these hours change every semester. Call the hotline or drop by the English Center to find out the current tutor training times.

What should I bring when I come to the English Center?
Answer: In order for a consultant to help you with an assignment in the English Center, you need to bring a copy of the handout describing the assignment, your textbooks, and any drafts or outlines of the paper you have completed.
How long do the tutoring sessions last?
Answer: With appointments, tutoring sessions run for 30 minutes; on-line sessions and those without scheduled appointments last 15 minutes.
Do I have to pay a fee to use the English Center?
Answer: The Center does not charge for its services.
