About the English Center

English Center Logo

The English Center offers one-to-one tutoring in reading and writing for students enrolled in Auburn University's Composition and World Literature courses.

More specifically, the consultants in the English Center can help you get started writing by teaching you how to brainstorm for ideas. Consultants can help you learn to organize those ideas and to develop plans for your papers. Once you have a draft, consultants can answer your questions about how to revise your papers and even read drafts to see if they make sense. Consultants can also answer questions about sentence structure, punctuation, and documentation.

Some of the Services Offered by the English Center:

  • Face-to-face tutoring in reading and writing in Composition and World Literature. These personalized sessions are the most popular service offered by the English Center. Come to Haley Center 3183 to discuss your writing or reading assignment with a trained consultant.
  • Routine tutoring for particular reading and writing problems. We recommend setting up a series of appointments for routine tutoring, perhaps with the same consultant.
  • An on-line chat feature that allows you to work with an English Center consultant via the World Wide Web.
  • A variety of handouts designed for English Center users, an on-line interactive punctuation guide, and links to other on-line writing resources.
  • A hotline (334) 844-5749 for answering quick and simple questions about writing.
