Joyce M. Rothschild specializes in the teaching of technical writing and technical and professional editing. She has co-written two articles on the practices of professional editors and is currently working on a more theoretical study of the role of editors in corporate America. She has given numerous workshops on professional editing, as well as presentations at national and regional conferences.

From 2001-2004, she was appointed technical editor of The Journal of Consumer Affairs, the official semiannual publication of the American Council of Consumer Interests. As technical editor of this interdisciplinary academic journal, she managed the production process from copyediting through final page proofs and served as liaison with the publisher, the University of Wisconsin Press.

From 1989 through 1991, she chaired the bibliography committee of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing and edited the annual bibliography in technical communication.

From 1997-2001, she served as head of the university's committee to obtain a Phi Beta Kappa chapter - and as the writer-editor of Auburn University's General Report to the Application Committee of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. She was president of the university's Phi Beta Kappa chapter for the 2003-2004 academic year.

She earned PhD and MA degrees in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland and the BA degree from Rutgers University. In addition to her PhD dissertation on the novels of the 20th-century Anglo-Irish writer Elizabeth Bowen, she has published an article on E.M. Forster and an interview with Alan Sillitoe.

Prior to earning her graduate degrees, she worked as a writer-editor for the U.S. Department of Education, the University of Pennsylvania Development Office, and the University of Maryland Office of University Relations, where she edited the President's Annual Report to the Board of Regents.
