Keith Gibson, Assistant Professor. I earned my PhD from Penn State
University
in 2003 and joined the Auburn faculty the same year. My research
focuses on
the intersections of rhetorical theories and scientific discourse;
I am
particulalry interested in how rhetorical pursuits shape scientific
knowledge.
I have focused much of my work on research surrounding artificial
intelligence
in the last 50 years, but I am currently investigating the way science
influences public policy as well, as in the case of nuclear power.
My research findings heavily influence my teaching. I work predominantly with scientific and professional writers, and the methods I find effective for other, more experienced writers often translate very well into the classroom. I often focus on such topics as technology's influence on writing and the strengths of ancient rhetoric in modern scientific discourse.
