New Regulation: Effective September 1, 2004, all international students and scholars will need to pay a US Department of Homeland Security a $100 SEVIS fee for the following processes:

·    Prior to applying for a visa abroad (requires initial I-20 or DS-2019)

·    Prior to applying for a change of status to F or J (requires COS I-20/DS-2019)

·    Prior to reentering the US after a 5 month absence outside the US (requires initial attendance I-20)

·    Prior to applying for reinstatement under certain circumstances
