For information on applying for a US VISA

PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING:

Be aware that the Office of International Education will process an I-20 or DS-2019 - (your US DHS Certificates of Eligibility) needed for the visa applications only after you have been formally admitted to AU.  These documents cannot be produced until OIE receives the admissions paperwork from AU admissions offices, this normally takes several days to a week AFTER you have received your admission notification if you are an undergraduate and considerably longer if you are a graduate student.  Calling will NOT speed up the process as OIE must wait until your documents have been received from the appropriate admissions offices.  If you have a question email INTLEDU@AUBURN.EDU include your passport name, application date, application number if you have one and birth date in the email.  Also consider the following:

  1. Have you submitted a copy of your photo and data page from your passport with your admission application? If not please send a clear copy to the appropriate admissions office.

  2. Please consider the following:
  • FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE TRANSFERRING FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL WITHIN THE UNITED STATES AND NOT LEAVING THE US BEFORE COMING TO AU:

Have you submitted a Status Verification Form? OIE must receive the status verification form that certifies that you are in valid immigration status within the US.  Additionally it certifies that your SEVIS record will be transferred to AU so OIE can produce your appropriate Certificates of Eligibility under SEVIS.  Once this is done OIE will produce an I-20/DS-2019 for you and it will be available for you to PICK UP when you REPORT to AU for registration and orientation.  OIE does NOT send these documents to you.

  • FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE TRANSFERRING FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL WITHIN THE UNITED STATES AND TRAVELING OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES BEFORE COMING TO AU:

Have you submitted a Status Verification Form? OIE must receive the status verification form that certifies that you are in status within the US.  Additionally it certifies that your SEVIS record will be transferred to AU so OIE can produce your appropriate Certificates of Eligibility under SEVIS.  BE aware that your previous school that issued your I-20 or DS-2019 MUST transfer your SEVIS record electronically to AU before AU OIE can issue your I-20/DS-2019.  Once this is done OIE will produce an I-20/DS-2019 for you and following verification of your travel plans we will send you the documents so you can ENTER the US on the AU documents completing a transfer via travel.  If you enter the US on the other school documents you will be UNABLE to transfer to AU and will be required to report in to the school under whose documents you entered the US under.  Entering the US under another schools documents declares your intent to go to that school and NOT to AU.  PLEASE TAKE GREAT CARE, IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE PROCESS PLEASE EMAIL OIE AT INTLEDU@AUBURN.EDU with all the details of your plans.

TRANSFERRING TO AU AND GETTING A NEW VISA? Make sure you let OIE know as you will need your AU SEVIS documents to renew your visa.  If you try to use your old school documents or get a new visa with the previous school documents you will not be able to enter the US using the AU documents.  You must use the AU documents to renew your visa if you intend to enter the US and attend AU following entry.

  • FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE ENTERING THE US FROM ABROAD WITH A NEW OR RENEWED VISA
    • for the first time (US DHS SEVIS FEE required)

    • returning to the US following completion of a US degree program (i.e. beginning a new program) and not transferring from the other US school (US DHS SEVIS FEE required)

    • for reinstatement through travel purposes due to falling out of status during a previous stay (US DHS SEVIS FEE required)

You will receive an INITIAL ATTENDANCE I-20 document.  You must pay the US DHS SEVIS FEE fee prior to your visa appointment if you are applying for a new US VISA or prior to entry into the US if your visa is still valid.
