DO YOU NEED AN ALABAMA DRIVERS LICENSE ??: EXCERPTS FROM ALABAMA DRIVERS LICENSE MANUAL (VERIFY UPDATE INFORMATION) AN ALABAMA DRIVER LICENSE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THESE PEOPLE The following persons may drive a motor vehicle upon the streets or highways in Alabama without an Alabama driver license.
• A non-resident 16 years old or older who has a valid driver license from the state of previous residence may drive without an Alabama license for 30 days after becoming
a resident of the state.

International Driving Permits be careful IDP's cannot be purchased in the US by non-immigrants or immigrants for use in the US they must be acquired in the home country where the valid drivers license is issued.   A valid drivers license from your home country must accompany the IDP at all times.  Note an IDP is not a valid drivers license it is only a translation of the valid drivers license.

Note: there are many sources that sell international drivers licenses, documents, etc. these may or may not be validCheck with the drivers license authority in your HOME country for the proper location to purchase an INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT under the UN Convention on Traffic.

Although many countries do not recognize foreign driver's licenses, many countries accept an international driving permit (IDP). IDP's are honored in more than 150 countries outside the U.S. (check IDP application at: US AAA - American Automobile Association for a listing). The IDP functions as an official translation of a valid driver's license into 10 foreign languages. These licenses are not intended to replace valid foreign licenses and should only be used as a supplement to a valid license. IDPs are not valid in an individual’s country of residence.
