Participating
in the Study Abroad program was truly a life changing
experience and I would highly recommend it. I studied
in Wellington, New Zealand. While I was there I met so
many people that I would have never come in contact with
had I not done a study abroad. I not only met New Zealanders but I met people from
Thailand, Holland, France, Malaysia, Japan, China, and
other Americans. It was amazing to learn about so many
different cultures. I think the great thing about doing
a study abroad with a program as well is that they help
you get settled in and you feel like you have a base to
go to. I went with the Butler program and they really
made things easy for you. It is kind of scary being so
far away from home and they really worked with all of us
to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care
of. Also going with a program like Butler they assist
you in finding student housing, which I believe makes
all the difference. It was so great to be living around
other international students. You automatically had a
bond since you are all in the same situation. The
apartment complex where I lived enabled me to meet all
of the people I talked about before. Each week one of
us would cook a traditional meal from our hometown and
everyone would eat it together. I tried some things I
never would have dreamed of trying. It really made me
feel like I had a home away from home.
Also I feel like Studying Abroad gives you a great
excuse to travel. While I was in New Zealand I was
fortunate enough to travel to Fiji, Australia, and
Thailand. I really can’t speak highly enough of the
study abroad program. I know people always talk about
life changing experiences but study abroad is truly one
of those. If I could do a study abroad again I would.
I can honestly say that the 6 months that I spent in New
Zealand was the best time of my life. |
