When I was thinking about studying abroad, I weighted
out the pros and cons
to see what I would gain from the experience and easily
decided that it would be a great thing to do. After my
first month in London,
I soon realized that there were
a
lot more benefits that I did not think of when I was
considering studying abroad.
For example, when one of my best friends and I traveled
throughout Europe on Spring
Break; we built up so much more confidence in ourselves
because all we had was
each other. When we sat back and thought about all that
we had seen and accomplished,
we felt very proud because we knew that we did it all on
our own and succeeded. But we did not only succeed in
traveling, but also in the classroom.
When I became a student
at a University in another country, I learned a lot more
than just how their educational system works, but I
learned about how I could manage to succeed in a
different environment. I now know
that I can make it on my own and how to interact with
students and professors from another country. By
studying abroad I have not only learned about the world
and the people in it, but also figured out what I could
do when I was challenged with the adversity of being an
international student. The experience that studying
abroad has given me is something that I will talk about
the rest of my life with my family, friends, and new
friends from across the world. It is something that
you must do if you are given the opportunity. For just
a short time in my life I gave up my daily routine and
stepped outside of my realm and discovered much more
than just another semester in college, but an experience
of a lifetime. |
