Auburn Abroad Photo Contest

Who’s Eligible?

  • If you studied abroad under Auburn Abroad during the past academic year, you are!  That means that our 2008 winners will have studied abroad during Fall 2007, Spring 2008, or Summer 2008 in either an Auburn or non-Auburn study abroad program.
  • First prize in our contest is $100; Second prize is $50; and we give at least two Third place prizes of $25 each (in case of ties, we add more!).
  • Need ideas?  Check out our winning photos from 2003-2007.
  • Entries are due by August 20th and judging will be completed before the Study Abroad Fair in September. (Entries received after August 20th will not be entered into the contest).
  • Winning photos (and about 60 other entries) will be displayed at the fair and at other functions throughout the next calendar year and on our website.

How Do I Apply?

  • Choose three or four of your favorite photos that you took during your study abroad program, either in the country where you studied or in places where you traveled on breaks.
  • Since you, as a Global Tiger, are our primary focus please include at least one photo with you in it (and if you happen to be wearing an AU shirt or hat or holding a small banner or AU related item – all the better!).
  • Complete an entry form and email, fax, or bring it to our office.      Please e-mail your photos (jpeg format preferred) to our office.
  • All entries become the property of OIE and may be used in future publications within the university.
  • Students will be credited for pictures they have taken when they are used to promote study abroad at Auburn.
  • Winners will be notified by email prior to the Study Abroad Fair in September.
  • Your prize will be deposited directly into your Bursar’s account.

Choosing the Winners!

  • After the contest closes in late August, all entries are burned onto a CD, and a Word document is created with the photos, names of students, location of photos, and descriptions.
  • The Word document and CD are sent by campus mail to a distinguished panel of judges in several AU colleges and university management offices.
  • Judges are asked to choose winning photos based on key factors, including the quality of composition, and how effectively the student saw and conveyed a mood or moment in time.
  • Results are tallied in the OIE office and both judges and students are notified by email of the winners.
