Academic Credit
OIE is eager to post your grades as quickly as possible after you complete your program abroad. The following guidelines which will help us accomplish that for you.
- Check with your program provider to make sure they sent Auburn OIE an official transcript (201 Hargis Hall, Auburn, AL 36849). They will not send a transcript automatically – you have to request that it be sent.
We can’t use your personal copy, nor can we legally request the transcript from your provider for you. If your program was an Auburn faculty-led program, your faculty director will send your grades to us and they may not post for two or three weeks after we receive them due to sheer numbers. Please
do not call the office to check immediately upon your return.
- Inform your provider if you will graduate as soon as your program ends and ask that they expedite sending your transcript. You can request that they fax (334-844-4983) or PDF an unofficial copy to
Joan Layne immediately and then mail the original at their convenience.
- What do you do about courses you take abroad that were not pre-approved? Email department heads with the course descriptions as soon as possible to get Auburn equivalent courses approved (copy our department on any changes). You can do this after you return, too, but that slows down the grading process.
- If courses you took abroad were different from what you listed on your course approval form and you don’t provide OIE with Auburn equivalents, then courses will be sent as transfer credit only –
it’s your responsibility to obtain approval if you want Auburn credit rather than transfer credit.
- When your transcript copy arrives and you don’t see grades posted on your Auburn transcript within a few weeks, check first with your program to make sure they sent a copy to OIE (not to the Registrar), then contact OIE with an update.
- Review your grade postings and make sure they reflect the courses you had approved. If not, contact your program director and OIE.
- Bring back copies of your work and evaluations when possible – if you feel the grades you receive were not accurate, you can ask your department to review those papers and assignments and adjust your grade if appropriate.
- Keep your copy of any transcript sent to you. This is your only original. Neither OIE nor the Registrar can provide you an original transcript after grades are posted (they are scanned into your student records), and you may need a copy later when you apply to graduate school or apply for a job.
